The Best film “MEMORIES OF THE WIND”
The 8th Montreal Turkish Film Festival successfully closed on May 15th .
The 8th Montreal Turkish Film Festival which made its opening on May 13th with Özcan Alper’s movie the “MEMORIES OF THE WIND”, continued the next day with the documentaries “EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE” and “TEKEL WORKERS RESİSTANCE”, thereafter “NOT SO FARAWAY “of Türkân Şoray and “A UNIQUE LIFE” of Çağan Irmak.
The Festival was focused on a weekend, the audience had the privilege to see more documentaries like the “TURKS OF AHISKA, IN HOMELAND AFTER 70 YEARS” of Cenk DEMIRKIRAN and “A BETTER LIFE” of Pınar Okan.
“ALL ABOUT LOVE” of Andaç Haznedaroğlu, a romantic movie followed the precedents, in which well-known stars in Turkey, Hande Doğandemir and Şükrü Özyıldız had shared the lead roles.
The 8th Montreal Turkish Film Festival ended with the film “SIVAS” of Kaan Müjdeci.
In Short Film Section, Montrealers could see the “SIN” of Gülistan Acet, the “VICTIM” of Mehmet Yamak, the “RESULT” of Hakan Sümer, the “HIPPOCAMPUS” of Süleyman Arda Eminçe, the “MY GRANDMOTHER JAZZ PASSION” of Ercan Selim Öngöz and the “TRANSLATOR” of Emre Kayis.
During the Festival, the audience had the opportunity to meet the filmmaker Andaç Haznedaroğlu, the director of the “ALL ABOUT LOVE”, Yetkin Dikinciler, the lead actor of “A UNIQUE LIFE” and the actress Aslı Orcan.
THE WINNERS
Best Film Award to “MEMORIES OF THE WIND”
The awards have just been unveiled. While the film “MEMORIES OF THE WIND” won the Best Film, the “RESULT” got the award for Best Short Film, and the “TEKEL WORKERS RESISTANCE” for the Best Documentary Award.
The Special Jury Prize and the Special Mention
Moreover, the jury honoured the “A UNIQUE LIFE” of Çağan Irmak with the Special Prize, and the “SIN” with Special Mention.
Following the unveiling, the jury which was composed by well-known filmmaker, journalist and artiste, Marielle Nitoslawska, Laura-Julie Perreault and Lousnak, explained the award reason:

Speech of President Ömer Özen
At the closing, the President Ömer Özen made a short speech and thanked the Jury, participants, sponsors, volunteers and spectators. Mr. Özen has added that the survival of the Festival is due to moviegoers, to the supports of the community and audience.
