Again Liberals, Again Minority Government !

Canada is divided in two, Liberals will forming a new minority government.

In Canada, which has been experiencing a government crisis for a long time, the path to the urgent dissolution of the Trudeau Government was provided by the resignation of Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, and the major rift within the government was revealed.

Justin Trudeau desperately went to the Governor General at the end of 2024 and asked her to dissolve the parliament, and announced that he would remain in office until a new leader was elected, then resign and take the country to an early election on April 28.

In February, the Liberal Party elected Mark Carney, who had been Governor of the Bank of Canada and England, as party leader and interim prime minister, paving the way for an early election.

After a one and a half to two month campaign, Canadians who went to the polls brought the Liberals to power for the fourth consecutive time, but again did not give them full authority, limited them to 169 seats instead of the 172 required for a majority government, allowing them to form a minority government.

While it was considered certain that the Conservative Party (CPC) would form the government in a new election last year, the needle started to move in the opposite direction with Trudeau’s resignation, but stopped in the middle and gave the green light that winked at the Liberals again. While the Conservative Party of Canada was content with only 144 seats in Parliament, its leader Pierre Poilièvre was also out of the picture by not being elected.

The New Democratic Party, which was a key party in the last election and supported the Trudeau minority government, lost its chance to the Bloc Québécois, winning only 7 seats in Parliament. New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh was not elected. In his election night speech, Singh announced that he would remain in office until a new leader was elected, after which he would resign.

The Bloc Québécois, which became the key party for the Canadian federal government and participated in the elections only from Quebec, revealed that it was in the middle of bargaining with 22 seats, and Party Leader Yves-François Blanchet sent the message of ‘I have conditions’ to the new Carney Government.

Canadians gave Mark Carney, who has no political background but has served as the Governor of Bank of Canada and England, a strong figure in the financial world and the best player against Donald Trump, who wants to make Canada the 51st state of America and has declared trade war on the whole world, a chance.

Let’s see if Mark Carney can make good use of this chance.

The Conservative Party, which generally receives good votes in Western Canada, managed to make a breakthrough especially in Ontario and Quebec by surprising Canadians, but failed to gain the full trust of Canadians and again gave him the main opposition position.

On the other hand, Şima Açan, of Turkish origin, from the Liberal Party in Oakville West, Ontario, was elected and she will enter the Canadian Parliament as an MP.

Şima Açan, who has been living in the Oakville West region for 17 years, is a businesswoman and promises to focus on the problems of her region and to voice these problems in Ottawa.

The election results are as follows:
Liberal Party (LPC) 169, Conservative Party (CPC) 144, Bloc Québécois (BQ) 22, New Democratic Party (NDP) 7, Greens (GPV) 1.
