Hrant Dink will be commemorated in Ottawa
Voices in Dialogue (ViD), a organization established in Ottawa will commemorate the legacy of Armenian-Turkish journalist and human rights activist Hrant Dink, and will host a public event on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Main Branch Auditorium of Ottawa Public Library.
The event features ViD’s Hrant Dink Memorial Lecture on Freedom of Expression and Peacebuilding by Howard Eissenstat, Associate Professor of Middle East History at St. Lawrence University with specializations in the history of 19th-century nationalism in Ottoman Empire, rule-of-law and minority rights in contemporary Turkey. He has also been Turkey country specialist for Amnesty International, USA for over a decade. The title of Prof. Eissenstat’s lecture is: “Of Tolerance and Targeting: Non-Muslims in the Turkish Republic”.
In addition to the memorial lecture, the event will also include:
· Dance performance by Ömer Ongun and Silvia Holtrop, titled “Gorani”.
· An award-winning short fictional film Last September (2019) directed by Gülsün Odabas.
· Songs by established Ottawa singer/songwriter Garo Altinian.
Master of Ceremony will be Anoush F. Terjanian, Assistant Vice-Dean, Partnerships and Research Networks, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ottawa.
